Privacy & Cookie Policy
Last Updated: February 2026
At Pup ID, we take the security of your pack seriously. This policy explains how we handle your data, what a “Finder” sees when they scan a tag, and how we use cookies to make your experience seamless.
1. Data We Collect
To provide the Active Recovery System, we collect the following information:
- Account Information: Your name, email, and billing details (processed securely via our payment partners).
- Pup Profiles: Your dog’s name, photos, medical notes, and temperament.
- Contact Details: The phone numbers and social links you choose to display to a Finder.
- Location Data: When a Finder scans your dog’s tag, our system offers a permission request to capture the GPS coordinates of the device used. If permission is declined or unobtainable, an IP address is used in its stead (which may be less accurate) to send you a Live Location Alert.
2. The “Finder” View (Privacy by Design)
Your privacy is in your hands. A person who scans your dog’s tag only sees the information you have explicitly chosen to make “Public” in your Member Dashboard.
- You can remove or toggle your personal information at any time.
- Finders cannot access your billing information or private account details.
- The connection between a Finder and an Owner is facilitated by Pup ID to keep your primary data secure.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your information solely to:
- Facilitate the recovery of your pet.
- Send you critical alerts (Scan notifications, billing reminders).
- Improve the Pup ID hardware and software experience.
- We never sell your data, or your dog’s data, to third-party marketers.
4. Cookie Policy
We use “cookies” (small data files) to improve your experience on our platform:
- Essential Cookies: These keep you logged into your Member Dashboard so you don’t have to re-enter your password every time you update your Pup Profile.
- Performance Cookies: These help us understand how users interact with our site so we can make the “I Found a Dog” page faster and easier for Finders to use.
- Marketing Cookies: We may use these to show you relevant updates or reminders about your membership on platforms like Facebook or Google.
Note: You can manage or disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features of the Member Dashboard may require them to function correctly.
5. Data Security & Maintenance
We use industry-standard encryption to protect your data. While no system is 100% secure, we take every reasonable precaution to ensure your information is stored safely on secure servers.
To maintain these high standards, we perform frequent website maintenance. This may result in very small windows of downtime while security measures and software updates take place. Pup ID aims to perform these updates during off-peak times to ensure minimal impact on your service.
6. Your Rights
Under Australian Privacy Law, you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you and request that it be corrected or deleted. If you cancel your membership and wish for your data to be permanently erased, please contact our support team.
